I’ve been meaning to start a blog for a long time now but I never seem to have time to work on my own website. Today I’m going to make some time.
One year ago today was a wonderful day. Diana Davidson and I had taken a photography trip to Greece and had just completed the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk in Athens.
The walk leader Helen Sotiriadis was wonderful and fortunately for us had grown up in the US and spoke English really well. The walk was great but the next day was even better! Helen and Georgios Georgiadis had offered to take us out to Cape Sounion aka Temple of Poseidon. We had looked into this place and checked out the various tour companies offering sunset excursions but for some strange reasons they all listed returning at 6:00pm or before and the sun didn’t set that evening till almost an hour after that. The concept of having a sunset excursion that leaves before sunset escapes me. Helen and Georgios picked us up and drove us the almost 2 hours necessary to reach this location from Athens. We got there early so we had time to have something to drink at the cafe and look around a bit before sunset. There was this crazy helicopter that kept circling for awhile. They looked like they might have some really large lenses up there.
Once the sunset came I realized I had to use a wide angle to try an capture both the temple and the sunset. Even with the buses leaving there was still a pretty good group of people around to watch the sun sink into the ocean. What a fabulous place to be! Wish I could be there again this year.
The light on the temple gave it much better color than the light of day and as we departed I was slow to turn around and look behind me. Diana has a fabulous picture taken just as we were leaving. I took one further down the hill but most of the light was gone. After leaving we went down to a little restaurant that could be seen in one of our pictures from the top.
We had a delightful dinner along the shore where I tried many foods I had never tried before. So many types of fish I had never heard of. One I think they just called it “red fish” was terrific! The view back up to the lighted temple was great too! Thank you so much Helen and Georgics for a wonderful time in Greece.

12 Oct 2015Great posting, Margaret, and welcome to the blogging world! I enjoy writing almost as much as I enjoy photographing so being able to combine the two in a blog post is a lot of fun. I enjoyed your posting immensely and it took me back to our greece trip. It was a fabulous trip, wasn’t it?
